Ever since people became sick of webcomics with monkey/ninja combos the same people have been wondering what the next thing will be to make comics about until people are sick of them.
Some think it's going to be platypus vikings but I think Ducks that work in an office are where it's at.

pirates already replaced monkeys and ninjas. i think even pirates are on the out already, as i've seen less of them and more zombies these days. i think it's lazy humor, personally. saying "zombie" isn't a joke.
